John,
A Trump-appointed judge in Texas just suspended the FDA's approval of one of the key drugs used for medication abortion (mifepristone). The judge's decision means that as soon as next Friday, this abortion pill could be banned nationwide -- even in states where access to abortion is still legal.
Mifepristone has been approved by the FDA and used safely in the U.S. for the past 20 years. In fact, “medication abortion,” or abortion using pills, is now the most common type of abortion in the U.S.
Abortion pills (typically a combination of mifepristone and misoprostol) are not only used to safely and effectively end early pregnancies, but they are also prescribed to ease miscarriages. We must urgently protect people’s access to these medications.
Please sign now to tell the FDA: Use all available emergency powers to protect access to the abortion pill mifepristone ASAP!
The suspension of mifepristone is part of the right-wing’s decades-long plan to ban and criminalize our reproductive rights.
Even while Roe v. Wade was in place, people were not guaranteed access to abortions. States have been making it harder and harder to access abortion care, and for decades the racist Hyde Amendment has been in place -- blocking abortion access for low-income people, Native communities, and gender non-conforming people (who rely on federally funded healthcare).
I’ve been working to not only restore Roe v. Wade’s protections, but to expand access to abortions and reproductive justice. That includes founding the Mamas’ Caucus in Congress in partnership with Mothering Justice to center and advocate for mothers of color and their families.
I promise to keep fighting for our bodily sovereignty (our right to make choices about our own bodies) and for the right to access abortion care.
In solidarity,
Rashida
