Washington Post: “Tennessee vote marks latest GOP move to stifle dissent, experts say”
POLITICO: “The move by Republicans is remarkable for its naked partisanship and the speed with which it was executed.”

The latest news out of Tennessee is an outrage.
First, in 2022, Tennessee Republicans passed blatantly gerrymandered maps that Attorney General Eric Holder called “an obvious attempt to deliver illegitimate political power to the Republican Party for the next decade.”
Then, last week, in the wake of a horrific school shooting in Nashville, protestors called on Republican legislators to pass common sense gun reform, including universal background checks supported by 70% of Tennessee parents.
Now, instead of listening to voters’ voices, Tennessee Republicans have expelled two Black legislators while continuing to ignore the will of the people.
This move is unprecedented in Tennessee’s history and a clear attempt to stifle dissent. But according to POLITICO, it could be “a glimpse of the future” as Republicans develop new tactics to usurp the will of the people.
AG Holder summed it up bluntly: “Without gerrymandering there would be no expulsions.”
But at the NDR PAC, we know the Republican strategy of being a minority party with majority power is shortsighted. As Justin Jones, one of the expelled lawmakers, told his Republican colleagues:
“Your flexing of false power has awakened a generation of people who will let you know your time is up.”
He’s right, John – and if you agree that time is up for Republicans who seek to undermine our democracy, we need your support today. Will you pitch in now to help the NDR PAC keep working to elect Democrats who will fight for fairness across the country?
