Last night, Republicans expelled two Black, Democratic lawmakers from the
Tennessee State legislature.

Why? Because Representatives Justin Jones and Justin Pearson protested
alongside constituents demanding action to prevent gun violence after six
people were shot and killed at a Nashville school.

Their expulsion is dangerous, undemocratic, and racist.

We stand side-by-side with Representative Jones and Pearson in this moment
— and we're going to make sure they have the resources they need to fight
back and keep advocating for the people of Tennessee.

Republicans in Tennessee showed us who they truly are. These Black men
were duly elected by their constituents — the same ones who are calling on
their representatives to act on common sense gun control.

Instead of listening to the people, the Tennessee Republican Party chose
to expel two Representatives who were speaking out and demanding change.
That’s not democracy.
