According to a new report [[link removed]] from the LGBTQ+ Victory Institute, not only are more LGBTQ+ people serving in office than ever before, but they are also more unified, determined, and diverse than ever. The number of out LGBTQ+ elected officials serving in the U.S. increased by 68% over the past five years, rising from 698 to 1,174, and the proportion of LGBTQ+ people of color in office increased from 22% to 32% over this same period.
In order to have an inclusive democracy and fight the flood of attacks against LGBTQ+ people—including the unprecedented number of anti-LGBTQ+ bills introduced in state legislatures across the country—we need even more LGBTQ+ people in office.

The forces of racism and white supremacy are sadly still alive and as apparent as ever. Yesterday's expulsion [[link removed]] of two young Black lawmakers from the Tennessee General Assembly—Representatives Justin Jones and Justin Pearson—happened because they challenged their fellow representatives to take action and prevent gun violence in the wake of the mass shooting in Nashville last month. This is just the latest example of the ongoing struggle for justice and equality.
But, as we know, history is written by those who fight against injustice and oppression. We stand with Representatives Jones and Pearson and all those who speak truth to power, and who demand accountability and transparency from those in positions of authority. We will continue to fight against anti-democratic, anti-American attacks, and we will not let our voices be silenced.

The U.S. Office of Management and Budget is considering adding a Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) category to government forms.
