**Temporary lane closures on Route 34/Washington start Monday**

The Village of Oswego has launched a project [ [link removed] ] to install two new traffic signals in the downtown area. The signals will be constructed on US Route 34/Washington Street at the intersections of Main Street and Harrison Street. The project includes ADA-compliant pedestrian signals and improved pedestrian ramps.

All signals on Route 34 from Illinois Route 31, near Village Hall, to Illinois Route 25, at the intersection of Madison and Chicago, will be electronically interconnected to provide better traffic flow. In addition, the railroad warning signals on Route 34 will communicate with the traffic signals to ensure that vehicles can clear the tracks prior to a train approaching.

The project will require intermittent lane closures along Route 34/Washington Street at various points in construction starting April 10. The Village has worked closely with the contractor to minimize the impact on traffic in the area. Sidewalks at the intersections of Washington and Main streets and Washington and Harrison will also be temporarily impacted during the work. Drivers and pedestrians are asked to use caution when walking or driving downtown and especially in the work zone.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of July.
