Rep. Troy E. Nehls Tours Union Pacific Facility Greetings! I wanted to take a moment to share with you a recap on what happened last week in Texas' 22nd District and the United States House of Representatives. This Week in TX-22 Rep. Troy E. Nehls Tours Union Pacific Facility This week, I toured the Union Pacific Westfield Automotive Facility and Settegast Freight House. I learned more about their freight operations through our region. As Chairman of the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials, I am committed to working with the rail lines to ensure freight is moved as safely and efficiently as possible. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Tours Port of Houston I had the opportunity to tour one of the world’s busiest waterways, the Houston Ship Channel. The Houston Ship Channel is a vital economic engine for the Houston region and the state of Texas. Ship Channel-related businesses contribute more than 1.35 million jobs throughout Texas and generate more than $339 billion in statewide economic value. I appreciated hearing more about their federal policy priorities, including continued support for channel expansion to provide for further economic growth. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Visits with DNV Employees I was able to visit with employees at DNV, a global company that provides risk management services for several industries including maritime, oil and gas, renewable energy, electrification, food and beverage, and healthcare, whose United States headquarters are located right here in TX-22. I was glad to speak on how my work on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee relates with their mission to safeguard life, property, and the environment. Thank you for having me, and congratulations on celebrating 125 years of working in the United States! Service Academy Nominations Are Now Open My office is now accepting Service Academy Nominations. One of the privileges of serving in the United States House of Representatives is the opportunity to nominate outstanding young people from the 22nd Congressional District of Texas to be considered for appointment to our nation’s service academies. Admission to a service academy is a two-tiered process. First, the candidate must meet the minimum standards set by the individual academy. Second, the candidate must complete the congressional application by October 6, 2023, to be considered for an interview in our office with the nomination review board. Please note, the ultimate selection of appointees rests solely with academy officials and is based on their competitive evaluation of all nominees. The checklist and application can be found on my website. If you have any questions, please email [email protected] or call my district office at 346-762-6600. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Taxpayer Assistance Centers (TACs) in the Houston Area Many Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Taxpayer Assistance Centers (TACs) will offer in-person assistance without an appointment on Saturdays, April 8 and May 13, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., local time. TACs providing these Saturday hours will accept walk-ins for all services they routinely offer, except for making cash payments. Tax return preparation and filing is not a service provided at IRS TACs. There are many locations in the Houston area. To receive TAC services during regular operating hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. local time, taxpayers should call the IRS Appointment Line at 844-545-5640. To learn more about visiting a TAC, visit IRS.gov/appointments. High School Congressional Art Competition is Now Open My office is now accepting Congressional Art Competition submissions.
