but only if we all pitch in

This week, we won an unprecedented victory.

new york times headline: N.Y. Governor Walks Back Push to ‘Weaken’ Climate Law After Uproar Gov. Kathy Hochul had proposed revising the state’s landmark 2019 law in an effort to reduce costs for state residents.

The governor tried to sabotage our hard won climate law, and the entire climate movement not only mobilized in full force--we actually stopped her in just a few days.

In New York, the budget process gives the governor an enormous amount of power. To not only defeat this initiative, but do it so quickly, shows just how strong we are when we work together like this.

Still, stopping the fossil fuel industry from dragging us back to the past is just the start. Now, we have to make sure we move into the future.

So good thing that after years of hard work, our movement has pushed multiple historic bills to the brink of passing.

And with your help, we can pass them in the state budget this month, and get New York on track to the kind of future we can be proud of.

Sound good? Then mark your calendars now!

giant hand holding up cellphone with solar panels and wnd turbines on it, headline says our future. your call. build public renewables

First, on Monday April 4th, we’re flooding governor’s phones for a bill that The New Republic said could make New York the New National Model for Climate Policy: The Build Public Renewables Act.

If you’ve never done a call relay, it’s not quite as easy as just calling a number... it’s easier!

Just pick a time slot, and another volunteer will text you when it's your turn keep the phones ringing off the hook. Then you just make your call, and remind the next person in turn. It's a great way to keep the pressure on the way we need to to get this done.

What else are we fighting for in the state budget? How do we win it? When will the budget happen? Will it ever happen? 😵‍💫

Even more than most state government processes, the state budget is particularly opaque and hard to follow. But, especially in a state that if it were a country would be one of the ten largest in economies in the world, it’s one of the most important.

So to learn more about what’s going on, why, and how to plug into some (sustainably powered) actions to fund the green economy we’re fighting for, make sure to join our next Renewable Heat Now Power Hour on Thursday, 4/13!

Signed up for both yet? Then stay tuned for more equally vital actions to come!
