Hi John.
I wanted to share a quick story with you about a friend of mine: Julie.
Julie lives in Overland Park and has had Type 2 diabetes for many years. She started taking insulin three years ago, right after retiring.
Unfortunately, the cost for this new prescription upended her daily life. Like so many I've met, it created a huge strain on her finances.
She had to pay $700 for insulin alone some months – not including two other medications she has to take. The high price tag meant she had to cut back on other areas of her budget so she could afford it.
There's no other way to say it – this is wrong. It's wrong to force people to choose between paying for lifesaving medicines or groceries, especially when huge drug companies rake in enormous profits.
That's why I was glad to help pass a new law to cap the cost of insulin for seniors on Medicare at $35 a month. It took effect earlier this year, providing relief to millions. Now, I'm pleased to see major insulin producers are following suit, thanks to the pressure this law helped bring.

Julie, who lives in Overland Park, is one of thousands of seniors who’s now seeing relief from the new cap on insulin prices. She was also interviewed on Fox4KC – please click here to see it.
More than 17,000 seniors on Medicare in our district alone have diabetes. They've had to pay much more for insulin than people who live overseas.
Capping the cost of insulin at $35 is making an enormous difference for so many of them. And now, people of all ages can begin seeing lower costs too.
We still have a lot more work to do – but this is incredibly important progress. This is what we can do when we're actually focused on people. It has nothing to do with partisanship or politics. It's about doing the right thing for folks who depend on a lifesaving medicine.
I've made it one of my top priorities to lower the cost of prescription drugs ever since I began serving you in the House in 2019. You can count on me to keep standing up to Big Pharma, or anyone in either party, who gets in the way of progress.
