John,
Today, Reverend Patrick Mahoney is holding a peaceful prayer ceremony with his congregation on U.S. Capitol grounds.
This is the first time in two years that Rev. Mahoney has been able to hold a Good Friday Service outside the U.S. Capitol because of the unconstitutional restrictions that were called for and implemented by the Capitol Police post January 6th.
Large fences were erected to keep the American people away from the Capitol and permits to peacefully gather were denied – unless you had a friend in Congress. You might recall radical leftist Cori Bush camping out for three days on the Capitol steps with a crowd of followers with absolutely no consequences.
Her speech was allowed but Rev. Mahoney wasn’t allowed to gather for prayer.
As you may remember, we repeatedly sued the U.S. Capitol Police Board over these restrictions on public gatherings at the People’s House.
Thanks to your support we finally won a victory last year when, in response to our lawsuit, Capitol Police amended its policies to re-open large areas of the Capitol Grounds for peaceful gatherings.
But for this important victory, today, faithful Christians would not have been able to gather today outside the Capitol to worship God according to the dictates of their conscience.
Unfortunately, the fight isn’t over.
Even as Rev. Mahoney holds a Good Friday service today, there is still a “buffer zone” around the Capitol where all expression is prohibited, and the Capitol Grounds still contain other large zones where First Amendment rights are suppressed by current regulation.
It’s important that you know that we’re STILL suing the U.S. Capitol Police Board over the restrictions that remain in place – and we’re committed to seeing our legal action through.
So, while we celebrate the fact that Rev. Mahoney is again able to exercise his First Amendment rights, we won’t be satisfied until ALL of your rights are fully restored.
Thank you for standing with us in our mission to defend the Constitution.
