Lila and I talked about keeping an eternal perspective in mind.
The most important moment of our existence is when we stand before God and it’s just us and Him.
Do we make our decisions based on that moment of being before God?
If someone is considering abortion, the most loving thing I can do for that person is to tell them the truth - that there are life-affirming options available to them, and that they will answer to a holy God about that decision one day. Out of love, I must tell them not to go through with that action.
But also, we have the beautiful opportunity of revealing to those who have had abortions that there is forgiveness. His throne is a throne of grace. We can approach Him and receive mercy. This is not an unforgivable sin, but there must be a humble recognition of the severity of such actions.
John - I can tell you right now that even though there is inevitable persecution for standing for the truth, there is abounding peace and joy that surpasses all of it.
When we feel afraid to speak unpopular truths, we must remember that we will answer to a holy Creator, the Author of life. Jesus Himself said that if the world hates you, know that it has hated Him first.
We must boldly hold on to the truth and be willing to suffer for it. People pleasing results in a false peace, but staying close to God results in peace beyond explanation, and that is what will last throughout eternity.
