The Time for Action is Now

Dear Email,

I'll be honest with you: I'm utterly livid right now! Israeli forces have raided and attacked worshippers for the past few nights, arresting hundreds and injuring many at Masjid Al-Aqsa. Last night, Israeli forces bombed Gaza, causing further destruction to an area that is still struggling to rebuild from Israel's previous assaults. What makes this escalation even more infuriating is that we predicted it. That's why AMP and our 501c4 affiliate organization, AJP Action, launched a preemptive advocacy campaign this Ramadan, targeting both the State Department and Congress. Through our communications and in-person meetings, we stressed the importance of the sanctity of the month and holding Israel accountable for any transgressions.

Our collective efforts are bearing fruits. In recent days, Members of Congress and other elected officials across the country have spoken out and condemned Israeli attacks. Furthermore, AMP chapters and our allies throughout the country are mobilizing protests and actions in defense of Al-Aqsa and the Palestinian people. Our job is not complete until we can translate all of this into policy. This is the work we must do on behalf of our first qibla.

For decades, Israel has escalated its violence in Al-Aqsa and throughout Palestine during Ramadan, turning a month of blessing and spirituality into a time of violence and destruction. With Israel's long history of crimes and violations of international laws, as well as unprecedented extremism and internal political crises, it was clear that harm would be done this Ramadan. However, let me be clear: there is nothing routine or normal about the desecration of Masjid Al-Aqsa or the bombardment of Gaza.

Palestinians have defended Masjid Al-Aqsa against this brutal occupation for decades, and we must do our part to support them. Change is happening; just recently, a poll came out showing that a majority of young Americans and Democratic voters consider themselves pro-Palestine and more Americans are becoming sympathetic to Palestinians. We need to invest more resources to build on this poll and others like it to meaningfully impact policy. As Israel intensifies its attacks against Al-Aqsa, Gaza, and all over Palestine, we are committed to intensifying our efforts against the occupation. We are now more than halfway through the month of Ramadan, and the situation in Palestine is dire. We cannot stand by and allow this violence to continue. Make a contribution on this blessed Jummah and fulfill your obligation toward Al-Aqsa and Palestine.

Sincerely,

Dr. Osama Abuirshaid

Executive Director, AMP

P.S. Be sure to show your support for Al-Aqsa and join a protest in a city near you:
