We are 97 days into 2023 and there have been 142 mass shootings and 11,134 gun-related deaths, including 62 children, in the United States.
If you want to run for local office to promote common sense gun reform, Run for Something will help you.
It's hard to hold on to hope after the loss of so many lives, but there is a path forward. That path is lined with fierce candidates at the state and local levels ready to end gun violence.
Kellen Squire, an ER nurse from Charlottesville, VA, was on duty to treat victims of the incident during the Unite the Right Nazi attack in 2017. He has continued to work in the ER throughout COVID, and throughout an epidemic of gun violence in his community. He's running for Virginia House of Delegates and if elected, he'll be the only delegate with clinical experience.
Isaiah Santiago is running for Rochester School Board in NY. He's an 18-year-old college freshman, founder of an organization aiming to prevent gun violence, and has authored a curriculum on Mental Health Literacy. Isaiah is exactly the type of leader we need in office right now.
Ronnie Mosley just won his race for Chicago Alderman in IL this week! Ronnie has over 15 years of organizing and advocacy experience, fighting for gun violence prevention and serving on the board of March for Our Lives. He's got the organizing skills, experience, and drive to bring real change to his Ward and all of Chicago.
Kellen, Isaiah, and Ronnie have stepped up in a big way to keep their communities safe from gun violence, create meaningful gun reform, and address the root problem, not just the symptoms. And you, John, could be right beside them doing the work.
It's always the right time to start running for office. There are filing deadlines still open for 2023, and 2024 is right around the corner. We’d love to have you with us.
Let's go,
