John, as you may already know, several red states are refusing to expand Medicaid. Even after the devastating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, they still rejected federal funding and made it a point to say that they "didn't need it."
But there are people who need it. Medicaid can be a lifeline to low-income households, new parents, and those with chronic conditions.
According to The Hill: "Wyoming, Kansas, Texas, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and Florida have yet to adopt the expansion of Medicaid, leaving over 2.1 million people in the “coverage gap” — meaning they fall into the income level that would make them eligible for Medicaid but cannot access it because their state has not adopted it[.]"
These states are full of rural areas that already experience a gap in access to healthcare, but the leadership in these states also see to it that there is a gap in affordability as well. It shouldn't be like this. Healthcare should not be politicized.
One of our goals will be to build infrastructure and organization for crucial healthcare access campaigns, and ballot measures that promote a "healthcare for all" message.
