Dear John,
This week I was part of a bipartisan group that met with the Taiwanese President as the Chinese Communist Party continues ramping up its hostility against the island nation, even going so far as to threaten my staff that there would be consequences if we didn't cancel the meeting. I'm also calling on President Biden to withdraw his incredibly misguided nomination of Julie Su to lead the Department of Labor. Additionally, my office is continuing to offer some great opportunities for students in our district.
Get the details about all of this and more below, and make sure to follow my Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to get these updates in real-time.

Standing With Taiwan |
|
This week, I joined Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), and a bipartisan delegation for a meeting with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-Wen at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley.
Before the meeting, a Chinese diplomat emailed my staff, and the staff of other delegation members, threatening us to cancel the meeting or face consequences. The CCP can't intimidate me, so we went ahead with the meeting.
I was honored to meet with President Tsai and this large, bipartisan delegation of members to continue our conversations from my visit to Taiwan in December. The Chinese Communist Party is the greatest threat to democracy, and it is vital that we stand strong against their attempts to intimidate and threaten a sovereign nation into submission.
This historic visit sends a resounding message to the world that we stand with our ally Taiwan and will not tolerate any action by the Chinese Communist Party to undermine democracy.

Julie Su is WRONG for the Department of Labor |
|
President Biden has nominated former California Labor and Workforce Development Agency, Julie Su, to be the U.S. Secretary of Labor. During her tenure, Ms. Su did nothing but harm California’s workforce, oversee billions of dollars in fraudulent benefit payments, and further exacerbate the supply chain crisis.
That's why I sent a letter with Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Ways and Mean Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO), Education and Workforce Committee Chair Virginia Foxx (R-NC), and others in the California Congressional delegation to President Biden calling on him to immediately rescind his nomination of Ms. Su for Secretary of Labor.
American workers and businesses will face more regulation, mismanagement, and waste from Washington should the Senate confirm Julie Su as Labor Secretary. The President must rescind this nomination.

Get Your Education, Serve Our Nation |
|
For students considering their next steps after high school, the Military Service Academies present an exciting opportunity to receive a world-class education and unmatched leadership skills, paid for by the U.S. Military. The honor of attending a service academy comes with the obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.
Members of Congress may nominate candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies: U.S. Military Academy (USMA), the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA); the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA); and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), does not require a congressional nomination for appointment.
To request a Military Academy Nomination from my office, please complete the form on my website, and someone my office will be in touch with additional information. In the mean time, visit my website to learn more about the application process.
My team will be hosting an information night for interested applicants. Representatives from the U.S. Military Naval, Air Force, Merchant Marine, and Coast Guard Academies will be present to answer your questions about what it means to attend one of these institutions.
When: April 18, 2023 from 6:00-8:00pm Where: Buena Park City Hall Chamber Room 6650 Beach Blvd. Buena Park, CA 90622 RSVP: email [email protected]
