John,

Big Oil’s allies in Congress just forced the Biden administration to give away even more ocean habitat to drilling, including in the already heavily exploited Gulf of Mexico. That’s bad news for every living thing on Earth — especially the last few dozen Rice’s whales, who live only in the northern Gulf. These critically endangered creatures are particularly vulnerable to oil and gas activities.

Demand that the Biden administration protect one of the world’s rarest whale species from fossil fuel greed. [link removed]

This year the U.S. Department of the Interior will hold yet another selloff of the ocean to oil companies. And that comes in the wake of two other massive oil and gas lease sales in the Gulf that also threaten the last remaining Rice’s whales — fewer than 55.

It’s more important than ever, in the climate emergency, for ocean ecosystems to be healthy and resilient. That means protecting imperiled marine mammals like these beloved whales.

Tell Interior to stop leasing the ocean to Big Oil and protect key ocean habitat from more oil spills, vessel strikes, noise, and climate damage. [link removed]
