Friends, I can trace my commitment to clean energy all the way back to college, when I designed and built a carbon fiber solar-powered car called the “Sun Tiger” with my engineering classmates. We even raced it across the country:
Now, I'm working in the Senate to make 2023 the best year yet for clean energy. We've made incredible progress recently through the Inflation Reduction Act and the bipartisan infrastructure law. I'm especially proud that the Inflation Reduction Act includes provisions from my Zero-Emission Homes Act and gives homeowners rebates for clean energy appliances like electric stoves and heat pumps. I'm working on electrifying my own home right now. But we need to make even more transformational investments in clean energy to take on the climate crisis with the urgency it requires. That includes advancing renewable energy transmission to prepare our country for a wave of clean energy projects. More renewable power on the grid will help us fight climate change, create jobs, and save you money — renewable energy is the cheapest source of new electricity in most of the country. My passion for clean energy transmission must be why Axios just called me “The Senate's transmission king” (I promise I won’t let it get to my head!). But the future of clean energy isn’t just up to me or the select few of us on the Senate’s Energy and Natural Resources Committee. It will take all of us. Together, we can continue building support for policies that invest in clean energy, create jobs, and protect our planet.
