URGENT: Asbestos in Cosmetics!

Join EWG Action Fund and tell the FDA to take action to protect consumers from deadly asbestos!

***

Dear friend,

EWG scientists recently found more than 4 million asbestos fiber structures in a single gram of a talc-containing eyeshadow. Exposure to even small amounts of asbestos can cause grave, often fatal, illnesses like cancer.

Asbestos fibers are a common contaminant of talc, and based on EWG’s Skin Deep® database, there are more than 2,000 cosmetics and personal care products containing talc. But there are no federal requirements to test cosmetics for asbestos, so we have no way of knowing for sure how many of those products may be contaminated!

Join EWG Action Fund and tell the FDA it’s time to take meaningful action to protect consumers from deadly asbestos!

For decades the FDA has allowed voluntary asbestos testing with methods that are too weak to reliably detect asbestos fibers in cosmetics. Even worse, the FDA has allowed companies to keep the results of their asbestos tests a secret!

Consumers have a right to know if their personal care products are contaminated with deadly asbestos fibers. The FDA will hold a public meeting later this month to discuss standards for asbestos testing in talc. We need your help to make sure FDA requires the cosmetics industry use the most sensitive state-of-the-art testing methods and make the results public. Will you join us?

ADD YOUR NAME: Urge the FDA to mandate asbestos testing for cosmetics made with talc!
