Let’s talk about my opponent, Representative Jason Smith.

In one of his more recent taxpayer-funded newsletters he says, “[The rise in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program applicants] has continued even as the economy experiences record growth … This is why I fought to include legislation in last year’s Farm Bill requiring work requirements for able-bodied SNAP recipients.”

If you drive around Missouri’s 8th District, it is clear that the economy is not experiencing “record growth” but rather, record decline:

*
Missouri’s
8th
District
has
one
of
the
lowest
life
expectancy
rates
in
the
country
at
75.4
years
old
[[link removed]]
(the
highest
in
the
country
is
83.6
years)

*
For
every
100
people
living
in
Missouri’s
8th
District,
there
are
107
opioid
prescriptions
-
one
of
the
highest
rates
in
the
country
[[link removed]]
-
indicating
a
severe
and
fatal
crisis.

*
In
the
past
few
years,
five
of
our
rural
hospitals
[[link removed]]
have
closed
and
several
more
are
at-risk,
leaving
many
people
travelling
to
Arkansas
for
their
nearest
care

*
In
some
of
our
most
southern
counties
,
the
average
income
for
a
family
of
four
is
just
$20,000,
and
over
20%
of
individuals
don’t
have
access
to
some
form
of
health
insurance
[[link removed]]

*
Our
farmers
are
filing
bankruptcy
[[link removed]]
at
record
rates
because
they
cannot
afford
to
absorb
the
impact
of
the
Trump
Administration
tariffs
and
trade
war

I’m running for Congress to give the people in my District a fighting chance - because my neighbors can’t wait any longer, and because my friends are dying from poverty, lack of healthcare, and racial in equality.

We have to do something different.

I need your help to fight back against this kind of dangerous thinking. Our campaign relies on small dollar donors to fuel our work, and we’re up against groups like ExxonMobil, Koch Industries, the NRA, and UnitedHealth who fund my opponent’s campaign and simultaneously destroy our hometowns. If you’re ready for change, I’m asking you to consider making a contribution today [[link removed]] to keep our work going. Together, we can make a Missouri that works for all of us - not just the wealthy and corporations.

If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:

Express Donate: $5 [[link removed]]

Express Donate: $10 [[link removed]]

Express Donate: $25 [[link removed]]

Or, donate another amount [[link removed]]

Thank you,

Kathy

P.S. If you can’t make a contribution today, would you consider signing up to volunteer [[link removed]] with our campaign? We’ll need all hands on deck to flip this District.
