Dear John,
Psalm 37:1-6 reminds us, "Fret not yourself because of evildoers; be not envious of wrongdoers! For they will soon fade like the grass and wither like the green herb. Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday."
These words offer an important message for us in these unprecedented times. It seems like every week we are met with another headline reminding us that our nation is facing a truly critical moment. With the recent indictment of former president Donald Trump, many now wonder if our legal system can remain impartial - or if we are entering a new era in which our legal system is weaponized against political opposition.
Our country has never been down this path before. Indicting a former president for what appears to be a political agenda undermines our Republic and opens the door to further politicization and weaponization of our justice system. As we said in 2016, we do not condone the alleged inappropriate behavior. But the reality is that our so-called system of justice is being used to destroy not just a political opponent, but a political movement. This game of thrones puts our country in great jeopardy.
We are at a dangerous point, and it is critical that believers understand the volatile nature of where we stand as a country and how we should pray and act. I believe God is looking for those who will stand in the gap - pray for our nation, seek the Lord, and stand for His truth. With massive tornadoes causing widespread destruction and death, the school shooting in Nashville, a global banking crisis, increased tensions with China, and now the indictment of a former president, we must turn to God and pray for discernment, understanding, and wisdom in how to respond.
Would you join others across the nation and commit to praying for Donald Trump and our nation at this time? We can pray for wisdom as he navigates this unprecedented situation and discernment as he responds to the claims. We should also pray for the government officials involved - that they would handle this situation with honesty and integrity. And we must pray for our nation - that God would truly move as only He can. Our country has reached a point where there are no other options. We need God to stir in the hearts of people to bring unity and righteousness to our divided land.
I invite you to take the prayer pledge below. We will deliver these pledges to Mr. Trump so that he knows of the many people across the country interceding for him and the nation at this important time.
Standing (Eph. 6:13),
Tony Perkins President
Mr. Trump,
I pray that God will give you wisdom and grace as you navigate this unprecedented indictment and discernment as you and your team respond to the claims. I pray that you will seek the Lord and find strength in Him. I pray for the government officials involved that they would handle this situation with honesty and integrity. I pray that the plans of the wicked would be frustrated, that their deeds exposed, and that the Lord's justice would prevail. And I pray for our nation at this important time. May God stir the hearts of people and work as only He can in order to bring unity and righteousness to our divided land.
