John - History was made this week with the indictment of former President Trump - and not the good kind. And as a voter in the swing state that voted him out of office, there have been ties to Georgia all over this week’s extraordinary news cycle (and I’m not even talking about my “colleague” who went to NYC to “protest,” pictured below):

In his Tuesday night tirade at Mar-a-Lago, Trump again bashed my good friend and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis , who is currently weighing her own potential indictment against Trump. As the media is reporting, another indictment is likely forthcoming this year for the crimes Trump committed on his infamous phone call to Secretary of State Brad Raffensberger and his many attempts to pressure Georgia’s election officials to change the results after he lost here in 2020.

On Tuesday night, Trump called DA Willis, who is Black, a “racist” for continuing to investigate him, and said the “fake case” she’s preparing in Fulton County “was brought only to interfere with the upcoming 2024 election and it should be dropped immediately.” Trump also previously called for mass protests in Atlanta if Willis proceeds with any indictment of her own.

John – Trump’s comments about my friend Fani Willis are despicable, false, and dangerous for her safety. The “perfect phone call” to Secretary of State Raffensberger that he continues to recount may have violated four separate criminal laws, according to legal analysts. His comments continue to be flat-out dangerous: As a fellow Black woman holding elected office in Georgia, I’ve received my own fair share of racist, unsolicited messages from far-right trolls – they certainly don’t need any more encouragement from President Trump.

We’ll see where all of this goes in the coming weeks, but one thing is for sure: Democrats need to rally around Fulton County DA Fani Willis and let her do her job of seeking justice.

Thanks for reading,

– Lucy

P.S. As an elected official, Fani Willis does have an Actblue account and will face a re-election race in 2024. It sure would be a shame for President Trump and his supporters if we all made a grassroots donation to keep her in office for years to come. [[link removed]]
