This afternoon, Palestinian terrorists fired dozens of rockets from Lebanon into Northern Israel, striking communities and sending thousands of Israelis celebrating Passover into shelters.
This is the most severe provocation on Israel's northern border since the Second Lebanon War in 2006.
Below are photos from this morning's attack. This video shows smoke rising near a children's playground where a rocket struck.
The damage would have been far more significant but for Iron Dome, which intercepted 25 of the incoming rockets. The security funding you lobby Democrats and Republicans to approve once again saved countless lives.
As I write you, the Israeli security cabinet is meeting to discuss Israel's response. The current assessment is that Hamas is responsible for carrying out the attacks, with the permission of Hezbollah in Lebanon and at the direction of Iran. For the past many months, Israeli security officials have warned that Iran and Hamas are seeking to launch coordinated attacks against Israelis – from Gaza, Lebanon, the West Bank and in Jerusalem.
Officials from both the government and the opposition have already issued statements of support for a strong Israeli action. While the recent political debates exposed divisions in the country, there is absolute unity when it comes to matters of security. Terrorists don't differentiate Israelis by their political views nor wait for Israelis to resolve their differences.
Thank you for your enduring support for AIPAC and our work together to keep Israel safe. I will continue to keep you posted as this security situation unfolds.
Sincerely,
Cameron Brown Director, AIPAC-AIEF Israel (R.A.)
