John—I wanted to make sure you saw Terri’s email from earlier in the week. Momentum is growing and many more people are starting to speak out about the RESTRICT Act, including both AOC and Rand Paul.
We can stop this egregious bill and others like it but we need your support. Already we're meeting with key legislators in the House and Senate to explain the constitutional and privacy issues with this and similar bills; building websites and connecting our tools so people can easily write to their lawmakers; forming a coalition of other civil liberties groups opposed to it1; and doing tons of media interviews2,3. All of this costs money though so please chip in if you can!

Hi John,
This is terrifying. The US Senate is preparing to vote on a new bill called the RESTRICT Act (S. 686).
The bill is being framed as a way to crack down on TikTok because of its ties to China, but it’s way more broad than that. The RESTRICT Act would give the executive branch of the US government unprecedented authority to ban the use of entire apps or websites just by saying they pose a threat to national security.4,5
This is like the Patriot Act, but for censorship instead of surveillance.
We have to seize the momentum and outrage over the RESTRICT Act and stop it in its tracks. Will you make a donation now to make as much noise as possible about this egregious bill?
The more outcry we can generate, the stronger message we can send to Congress: any legislation that could curb free speech on the internet in the name of vague national security concerns makes no sense and sets dangerous precedent. Instead of banning apps or censoring information online, lawmakers need to understand that we’ll never be safe until we’re protected from all surveillance and data-hungry apps that collect and sell our personal data.
