Idaho already has some of the most extreme abortion restrictions in the nation, and things just got worse, John.
According to NPR, Idaho recently passed a bill that would criminally charge people for helping pregnant minors obtain an abortion across state lines without parental consent. If convicted, the person found guilty will face up to five years in prison. Additionally, the bill allows family members and the person who impregnated the minor to sue the doctor who performed the abortion for $20,000.
This extreme anti-abortion bill has been coined the “abortion trafficking bill.” According to Senate Minority Leader Melissa Wintrow, a Democrat who has worked with sexual assault survivors for decades, this wording cheapens the experience of human trafficking victims forced into slavery or prostitution.
To be clear: Idaho Republicans are unequivocally empowering rapists while putting the lives of pregnant minors in danger. |
