Governor Murphy signed an executive order this week establishing New Jersey as a safe haven for gender-affirming health care. The EO aims to ensure that members of the LGBTQIA+ community in New Jersey, including transgender and non-binary youth, enjoy equal access to quality health care services, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression, and regardless of whether they are a resident of New Jersey or any other state by:
-
Requiring all New Jersey departments and agencies to, within the fullest extent of their authority, pursue opportunities and coordinate to protect people or entities in New Jersey providing, receiving, assisting in providing or receiving, seeking, or traveling to obtain gender-affirming health care services.
-
Prohibiting New Jersey departments and agencies from cooperating with interstate investigations aiming to hold someone liable for civil or criminal penalties associated with gender-affirming health care.
-
Barring the extradition of an individual within New Jersey to another state for providing, receiving, or otherwise facilitating gender-affirming health care services that are legal in New Jersey.
“As leaders, our greatest responsibility is ensuring that every person we represent, regardless of their gender identity or gender expression, is entitled to respect, fairness, and freedom. We will continue to uphold these principles in New Jersey and support every person’s right to live freely and authentically by making our state a safe haven for those seeking or providing gender-affirming health care,” said Governor Murphy.
The EO comes on the heels of the announcement of New Jersey's first Transgender Resource Hub with information important to transgender and non-binary communities, such as how to change your name, obtain medical support, learn about your rights, and more.
"We're fortunate for the current leadership in our State, and for the majority of our Legislature that works every day to build equity for LGBTQ New Jerseyans, but we cannot turn a blind eye towards the fact that every place is susceptible to anti-LGBTQ sentiment, under the right circumstances,” said LGBTQ+ Caucus Chair Lauren Albrecht & Vice-Chair Joe Forte.
I am proud that our Democratic leaders continue to fight to make our state a more equitable and safe place for our most vulnerable communities. In the face of the barrage of misinformation, transphobic attacks, and hateful legislation attempts from Republicans across the country, New Jersey Democrats will continue to stand firmly with the LGBTQ+ community and their right to live and thrive in our state with dignity and respect. |
New Jersey became one of only 2 states in the country to earn an A rating for gun safety on Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence’s annual Gun Law Scorecard!
New Jersey Democrats, led by Governor Murphy and our Democratic leadership, have worked hard to enact strong gun safety laws designed to keep our communities safe including strengthening of concealed carry licensing standards, enacting a gun industry accountability law, restricting guns in sensitive areas, and strengthening laws restricting ghost guns. The facts are clear: wherever we see stronger gun safety laws, we see fewer gun deaths. Democrats will proudly continue to fight for legislation that is proven to prevent and address the epidemic of gun violence that we are experiencing across our country.

This week the Biden-Harris Administration announced new clean energy projects that will drive new investments in energy communities, strengthen American supply chains, and help ensure coal, oil, and gas workers benefit from the new clean energy economy as part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda.
These investments will drive new opportunities to coal communities to ensure they are not left behind as we move towards a clean economy, repurpose mine land sites for new clean energy projects that is estimated to generate up to 90 GW of clean energy—enough to power nearly 30 million American homes, and bring critical mineral supply chains to America which will help strengthen American supply chains and reduce reliance on competitors like China.
Since President Biden got in office he has prioritized Made in America manufacturing and clean energy job creation, which New Jersey has benefited greatly from. Companies have committed over $2.5 billion in private sector investments across New Jersey that are creating good-paying jobs, including union jobs and jobs that don’t require a four-year degree, in industries that will boost U.S. competitiveness, rebuild infrastructure, strengthen supply chains, and help build a clean energy economy.
