SDSU makes history

Dear Friend,

Spring has sprung, and how sweet this week has been for all of us in San Diego!

Here are some of the recent highlights of my time in Washington, D.C. and San Diego:

San Diego State’s Historic Basketball Season

I’m so proud of San Diego State University’s men's basketball team for smashing so many records this season. It was the first time in program history that they made it to the Elite 8, the Final Four, and the championship game. It was so fun to attend both the Final Four and the championship games in Houston and to watch them play their hearts out.

As the proud daughter of an SDSU alumna and the representative for SDSU in Congress, I can’t wait to see them win it all next year.

Celebrating International Transgender Day of Visibility

I’m the sister of a trans brother and a gender non-conforming sibling, and I'm so grateful to have seen my siblings grow happier and healthier because they can be their authentic selves.

But the rise of anti-trans rhetoric, policies, and violence here and around the world seeks to deny their existence and strip them of dignity.

That’s why I was so proud to join Senator Brian Schatz of Hawaii to introduce a bicameral resolution to recognize International Transgender Day of Visibility and celebrate the many contributions and achievements of the transgender and gender non-conforming community.

To the LGBTQ+ community: I see you, I hear you, and you are perfect just the way you are. I will never stop fighting for you.

Calling All CA-51 High School Artists!

We’re just two weeks away from the deadline to apply for our Congressional Art Competition! The deadline for submissions is April 21st and the winning piece will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

Visiting the San Miguel Consolidated Fire Protection District

As we head into peak wildfire season, I was glad to visit our firefighters and first responders at San Miguel Consolidated Fire Protection District who’ve served and sacrificed for our community for 35 years. It was great to visit their facilities, learn more about their work, and thank them for their courageous service.

Visiting Father Joe’s Villages

Housing and homelessness issues are top of mind for so many San Diegans. That’s why I was thankful to visit Father Joe’s Villages Saint Teresa of Calcutta Villa, which provides housing that’s affordable to hundreds of families, seniors, and people with disabilities in San Diego. I will keep working with all our partners at the local and state levels to expand our housing supply.

Making Sure All Kids Have The Tools They Need To Succeed

High quality, full-day kindergarten unlocks the potential for every child to be the best, brightest, and happiest versions of themselves. And it’s one of the best investments we can make – in our kids, families, and our economy!

That’s why I’m so proud to co-lead the Universal Full-Day Kindergarten Act so that all children have the early tools needed for future success.
