Dear John,
We did it! What an incredible victory for our democracy, our environment, and so many other issues we care about!
With your support, we ran a record-breaking campaign this spring. Our team knocked on more than 155,000 doors of voters in Dane, Milwaukee, Waukesha, Washington, Ozaukee, and Portage Counties; sent nearly 10,000 handwritten postcards to voters written by more than 130 volunteers; made 3,000 phone calls to voters in local races; and sent 15,000 text messages to conservation voters ahead of the February primary, helping achieve the record turnout of that election.
When the AP called the race for Judge (soon-to-be Justice!) Janet last night and messages started pouring into my phone from colleagues, friends, and family all over the country, it hit home once again the implications of this race far beyond Wisconsin's borders.
Our fight to protect the Wisconsin we love is also a fight for fairness, justice, and democracy for the nation.
I didn't come to this work through politics. I came to it because I believe every person deserves to have a fair and just system that allows their voice to be heard. For years now, Wisconsin's political systems have been rigged and have silenced the voices of Wisconsinites who simply want what we all want – a good quality of life for ourselves and our families.
Winning this Supreme Court race just gave us an opportunity to fix those rigged systems and make sure the voices of Wisconsinites are heard by our elected officials. We continue to have a lot of hard work ahead of us (it wouldn't be Wisconsin if we didn't, right?), but I am so hopeful that we can get Wisconsin back on track.
Thank you to every single one of you for all your work, your financial support, your emotional support, and for just being in this fight with us. It's a fight that is so worth having, and I'm lucky to be in the trenches with all of you.
Take some time today to savor the win – you earned it! Then keep up the good work (join us for Conservation Lobby Day on April 25!) to ensure every Wisconsinite has clean water and clean air, beautiful places to enjoy, and a voice in the political system.
