Anti-bias, gender expression, and gender identity training is now required for all neighborhood councils in LA.

friend—Proud and grateful moment!

The LGBTQ+ Alliance of Neighborhood Councils I co-founded has lobbied the City of LA to require DEI training for all Neighborhood Councilmembers since 2020, and the City finally adopted it into law last week!

After hearing horror stories from Neighborhood Councilmembers about blatant misgendering and gender-identity harassment from elected officials, we approached the City about requiring DEI training.

We engaged in trial sessions of the new training with the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment for feedback purposes, and I am so grateful that the City has made DEI & Anti-Bias training the law of the land in LA!

I’m proud to see our city pass such important and meaningful legislation in support of trans rights and acceptance, especially in a national environment where so many states are moving in the opposite direction.

Los Angeles is and will remain a sanctuary city for queer and trans people.

Now we just need to get the federal government to enforce our rights in the same way. How will that happen without a single trans person in Congress?

One last thing for today—this campaign has been endorsed by actress Jodie Sweetin! Best known for her role as Stephanie Tanner, Jodie has been a strong progressive activist, using her platform to fight for racial justice and reproductive rights.

We’ve got a full house of endorsers for this campaign, and the list keeps growing. From Marianne Williamson to the Mayors of Burbank and Culver City, elected officials and ordinary citizens alike are recognizing this campaign as the most progressive option to fill this empty seat in CA-30.

Are you ready to join this movement? We’re growing fast and would love to have you on the team:

The future is bright; I see it in my friends and neighbors. The next step is to elect representatives who share our fight to improve this nation, making it more just and equitable for all.

Your representative should be responsible to you. Not corporate or special interests. I don’t take corporate money, and I will never sell you out.

Yours,

Maebe
