Last week, Governor Josh Green took action to make our government more transparent and accountable by signing seven new "good government" bills into law that take steps to reform ethics, lobbying, and campaign spending in Hawaii.

HB90 increases transparency by requiring a notice of intent to hold a campaign fundraiser for which any price is charged or any contribution is suggested for attendance.

HB93 improves compliance with filing requirements and brings awareness of noncompliance to the public by requiring the Campaign Spending Commission to publish on its website the names of candidates and noncandidate committees who fail to file an organizational report or a corrected organizational report.

HB99 limits to $100 the total amount of cash a candidate, candidate committee, or noncandidate committee may accept from a single person during each election period.

HB130 and HD1 shortens the deadline for the validation of ballots following an election.

HB137 and parts of HD1 require lobbyists to report more specific information on the legislative or administrative action they lobby for.

HB140 allows the State Ethics Commission to engage in more precise record-keeping with financial reports.

HB142 improves ethical standards of conduct by prohibiting lobbyists from making certain gifts to legislators and state employees.
