What happened tonight Indivisibles --
Sorry for the late-night note, hope if you're out east, you’re asleep and get this in the AM.
The Senators’ question time in the impeachment trial just concluded and we have bad news: the moment the questions were over, retiring Senator Lamar Alexander of Tennessee issued a statement that his defining legacy in the Senate will be to cave to Mitch McConnell and vote for a witness-free sham trial.
What that means: unless something really, really dramatic happens overnight, sometime tomorrow (probably in the middle of the night because that’s Mitch’s favorite time of day to take a wrecking ball to our democracy), Senate Republicans will vote to acquit Trump without having heard from a single witness.
The raw partisanship and disloyalty to the core of our democratic values makes me want to tear my hair out. But the fact is, there’s not much more we can do on this vote -- so it’s time to look at the next one.
Our team will send another email tomorrow when we wake up with more details, but tonight I’m asking you. Please, please, the moment you get up, click here to find your local Indivisible group and sign up to volunteer on the election, and then click here to chip in a few bucks (even $1) to Indivisible Action and our Payback Project. Right now, those are the two best things you can do to get Trump and all his GOP flunkies out of office and take back the Senate and White House from these traitors.
Grabbing a couple hours of sleep. See you in the morning.
