How the federal Sugar Program leads to dirtier water

We could be here all day talking about Big Sugar’s impact on the environment.


But the bottom line is that the industry's political dominance, its iron grip on water policy, its legacy of pollution and beyond is effectively underwritten by our warped federal sugar policy, the profitability and undue influence it guarantees.


It’s long past time for change. And ending the Sugar Program in the upcoming Farm Bill is the most effective way to affect it.

Senate Bill 540 would force citizens who challenge comprehensive plan amendments and lose to pay the other side's legal fees; and it's been amended to boost to a controversial Miami-Dade plan to build on land needed for Everglades restoration. It's bad news - but you can reach out to key Senators and ask them to vote it down.
