It's Wednesday, April 5th.

The Evening will be off the rest of the week in observance of Passover and Easter—Happy Passover and Easter to all!
But we wanted to leave you with a smile. As written in this space frequently, the country rock sound of California is close to my soul. Whether it’s The Byrds, The Eagles, CSNY, Linda Ronstadt or Tom Petty, I’m all in. Of course, the Bakersfield country sound of Buck Owens and Merle Haggard, heavily influenced by rock and roll, is the key ingredient that launched LA country rock. When Gram Parsons hit the LA music scene in the late 60s, country rock went into overdrive. Parsons joined The Byrds in ’68, replacing David Crosby. The band went on to record “Sweetheart of the Rodeo,” widely recognized as the seminal country rock album. Before long, Parsons left The Byrds to found The Flying Burrito Brothers. The Burritos proved to be another step forward in country rock with a combination of original songs written by Parsons and carefully picked cover tunes which they made their own. Like this one.
