Last night’s election results were a win for democracy and so much more.
John: Last night, Wisconsin voters rejected far-right extremism and elected Judge Janet Protasiewicz over anti-abortion, election-denier Daniel Kelly in the key race for the state Supreme Court!
This was a big moment in our fight to build progressive political power at the state level. Yesterday’s election has tilted the balance of the state’s Supreme Court, which is now likely to overturn Wisconsin’s archaic abortion ban, reverse the state’s notoriously gerrymandered maps, and take further steps to protect voting rights and elections in the state.
Since the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, the fight to protect abortion rights has shifted back to the states — and our work has never been more urgent.
While last night’s election was a huge victory, we cannot allow ourselves to get complacent. With abortion rights and more under attack in many states across the country, we must double down in our efforts to continue to build progressive power everywhere we can at the state level.
We are beyond grateful to everyone who contributed to help us raise more than $26,000 for WISDOM and Citizen Action of Wisconsin — two of our 2023 State Bridges partners on the ground in Wisconsin who worked tirelessly to get out the vote. Last night showed us that every election matters and every grassroots donation can make a difference.
