We wanted to share an exciting win coming out of Michigan —today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed multiple bills to officially remove a decades-old total ban on abortion from state law!
Michigan's 1931 total ban on abortion had been blocked in the courts and was not in effect, but getting it officially off the books ensures anti-choice extremists can't try to weaponize it.
This win for reproductive freedom is a direct result of Michigan voters who showed up at the 2022 ballot box and overwhelmingly voted in favor of reproductive freedom champions. Not only did they re-elect reproductive freedom champion Governor Whitmer , they also flipped their state legislature from red to blue , and approved the "Reproductive Freedom for All" ballot initiative to enshrine the right to reproductive freedom in the state constitution.
When we show up, whether it's at the polls, in our state lawmaker's offices, or in the streets—we can fight for reproductive freedom and win.
