Yesterday, Donald Trump was arraigned in New York City and pleaded not guilty to 34 felony criminal charges. While Trump is using this moment as a fundraising opportunity and Republicans are in a fake uproar, I'm ready to get attention back where it belongs.
Yes, we must ensure Trump is held accountable for his actions — but our movement must go further than simply responding to Trump's antics. We must continue forging a path ahead to protect our democracy, expand our rights, and advance justice.
In 2016, I worked as an organizer for the PA Democratic Party fighting to defeat Trump. Now, as PA's first Black Congresswoman, I take seriously my duty to ensure Trump is held accountable and does not see power again.

We have to be careful with the tightrope we're walking right now. Trump is acting exactly as we'd expect in this moment — inciting his cult, accusing prosecutors of misconduct and abuse, and refusing to take responsibility for his actions.
At this same moment, the far right is passing a record number of anti-LGBTQIA+ bills at the state level, specifically targeting trans youth. Our children are facing the danger of gun violence in their schools. And corporations exploit our workers for their profits.
We need to tackle the urgent crises we face. That's why I'm focused on holding Trump accountable AND continuing our work to get dark money out of politics, pass Medicare for All, and secure a Green New Deal.
