Big Win for Accountability at Nevada Supreme Court
In August 2021, we filed a lawsuit on behalf of Marine veteran Stephen Lara, whose life savings were seized in a bogus roadside stop by the Nevada Highway Patrol, which then handed the money over to the federal government in an illegal end-run around Nevada’s forfeiture laws. The government got a court to put his case on hold pending the outcome of a different challenge to government abuse. So IJ got involved in that case and helped secure a major victory for accountability.
One of the first things we at IJ tell our clients is that nobody can tell their story better than they can. Marc N'Da, who is legally blocked from expanding his home-health care business because his future competition objects, got to tell his story recently in IJ's third trial in 12 months.
Supreme Court Asked to Strike Down Immunity for Police Task Force Officers Who Brutally Beat Innocent College Student
A new cert petition before the U.S. Supreme Court asks the Justices to strike down an immunity recognized by a lower court for two police task force officers who brutally beat an innocent college student in 2014. IJ client James King is asking the high court to hear his case for a second time and close a massive loophole for government officials who violate people’s rights.
Property Rights Victory for South Carolina Entrepreneurs
In a swift victory for property rights, IJ client Jeremy Sark will be able to keep his U-Haul business open now that the city of Mauldin, South Carolina, has amended its zoning code in response to IJ’s lawsuit on Jeremy’s behalf.
Former IJ client Ifrah Yassin spent about two years in federal custody after a lying St. Paul cop and federal task force officer named Heather Weyker framed her for a crime that never happened. Years later, Weyker is still a police officer earning six figures a year. Ifrah, on the other hand, has had her life derailed, and this year the U.S. Supreme Court slammed the courthouse door shut on her civil suit against Weyker. Please click here to learn more and donate to a GoFundMe to help Ifrah rebuild her life.
