April 5th, 2023: Weekly Newsletter | This is a Perversion of Justice. | Guilty until proven innocent! This is the perversion of the law that the left has embraced. To indict former President Trump on a flimsy charge that even Biden’s runaway DOJ had dismissed is totally outrageous. This is the same liberal DA that campaigned on his personal vendetta against President Trump. This kind of third world perversion of justice will not stand. | Biden's Department of Homeland (In)Security | Watch as I question DHS Secretary Mayorkas about the border crisis. | During the Homeland Security Subcommittee hearing last week, I pressed Secretary Mayorkas on the border crisis and the Biden administration’s complicity in human trafficking. Under his leadership, DHS has failed to achieve operational control of the border and, in the process, has created the worst humanitarian crisis in recent memory. Despite receiving millions of dollars in funding from Congress to build a wall, Mayorkas admitted in the hearing that this administration had canceled contracts for construction and we are paying for the border wall to be stored instead of built. There are laws in place that dictate how DHS should secure our border and handle migrants crossing illegally. Mayorkas has blatantly ignored these laws. To make matters worse, he is demanding even more money from Congress. Not only should we defund the Biden administration’s open-border policies, we must start impeachment hearings against Mayorkas immediately. I joined Newsmax to discuss the hearing which you can watch HERE. | Fighting for Fiscal Sanity | Watch as I press Secretary Yellen about the Biden administration's failed economic policies. | Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen appeared before the Financial Services and General Government Subcommittee this past week to testify about the country’s economic outlook. During the hearing, I pressed her on the importance of maintaining the U.S. Dollar’s status as the world reserve currency. Already, leaders in Russia and China are having discussions about moving away from the U.S. Dollar as their preferred currency and having talks about moving toward a multi-polar world order, where the United States is no longer the world leader. Yellen seemed unconcerned about these challenges, denying that there will ever be consequences for fiscal irresponsibility. Instead, she repeated her plea for Congress to raise the debt ceiling so that we can keep spending. It is concerning that the Biden administration continues to double down on their drunk government binge spending. At a time when we are being challenged as the undisputed world leader, it is imperative that we maintain sound fiscal policy. I also questioned Yellen about the importance of maintaining a competitive environment for financial institutions in the US who are being slapped with ESG regulations from the EU. Many of the policies in the ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) agenda threaten our ability to produce our own energy, making us more reliant on foreign entities. Rather than maintaining a commitment to stand up for American companies to ensure they are not subject to overly broad regulations from foreign governments, Yellen expressed a commitment to a “level playing field” with other countries. Instead of disadvantaging American businesses, we should be embracing policies that enable American ingenuity to continue to innovate and lead the world in best practices. | Investigating COVID-19 School Closure Policies | Watch my remarks at the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic hearing on the effects of school closures. | This past week, the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic held its third hearing to discuss the effects of school closures during the COVID-19 pandemic on students’ educational development. The Biden administration, the CDC, and the teachers’ unions’ guidance to prolong school closures and forced remote learning has resulted in devastating effects on our children’s education. The learning losses caused by these misguided policies are preventing students from reaching academic success. As we begin to fully address the negative impact that remote learning has had on students’ educational development, we must rescind policies that hinder learning and ensure our children have the opportunity to thrive in their educational development. | Empowering Domestic Energy | Last week, I voted in favor of H.R. 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act, as it passed the House. This bill, among other things, would prohibit the President from issuing a moratorium on fracking, streamline various permitting processes, and limit the ability of a President to meddle in energy projects. The Biden administration's anti-fossil fuel policies have led to astronomically higher energy prices, including the gasoline crisis just a short time ago, and increased prices for food and other basic goods. Furthermore, these policies have forced us to go hat in hand to OPEC+ countries, making us more dependent on other countries for energy that we can easily produce domestically. Americans are suffering the consequences of this administration’s bad energy policies. The best solution is to unleash American energy production, a job for which Texas is uniquely suited. If we prioritize increased energy production and exports, we will boost our economy, support American businesses, and liberate our European allies from dependence on bad actors, like Russia and China. | -
