In the middle of a cold winter night on February 6th, parents in Syria and Turkey pulled their sleeping children from their beds to seek safety as the earth shook and homes began to crumble. Critical infrastructure toppled and millions remain displaced across affected areas. Yet in the devastating aftermath of several serious earthquakes and thousands of aftershocks in the region, UNICEF continues to work around the clock to provide critical aid to children and families in need.
Thanks to the support of people like you, UNICEF has been able to provide immediate and lasting relief like:
-
Distributing winter clothes, heaters and blankets to over 21,000 people in Turkey
-
Delivering hygiene supplies to over 391,000 people in Turkey
-
Reaching 484,602 people in Syria with water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services and supplies
-
Providing over 122,434 children in Syria under 5 with much-needed nutrition screening and services
All of this relief and more has been a lifeline to children and families left in vulnerable situations after the recent disasters. But more help is needed — especially in places like Syria where over a decade of conflict has been exacerbated by the latest emergencies.

Before the earthquakes, two-thirds of Syria's population required help because of a worsening economic crisis, ongoing hostilities, mass displacement and crippled public infrastructure. An estimated 6.81 million children were in need of basic health services. And nearly 90 percent of people in Syria are living in poverty.
Now, on top of rebuilding after the earthquakes, a recent cholera outbreak is putting additional pressure on already overburdened public health services in the country. The futures of millions of children are hanging by a thread. But with the ongoing assistance from UNICEF there’s hope that children — like little Ishak in the photo below — can reach their full potential. |
Ishak is just one of the thousands of children UNICEF has helped recover from moderate acute malnutrition. Your commitment and generosity has enabled UNICEF to meet the growing needs of children in crisis in Syria, Turkey and around the world. We couldn’t do it without you.
Please, take a moment today to learn more about what’s at stake with ongoing conflict in Syria and how you can send more help as these crises continue. |
