Dear John,
We are incredibly proud to announce our latest effort protecting the civil rights of Iranian Americans and other immigrant communities in Texas. Today, our community has mobilized to protect our basic rights, with one voice , and stand against a discriminatory bill in the Texas state legislature (SB 147) and others like it.
Our coalition, which includes RISE AAPI, Armenian American Action Network, United Chinese Americans, and over 100 national and Texas-based organizations , submitted a letter to Gov. Abbott, Lt. Gov. Patrick and the Texas state legislature expressing our opposition to deeply harmful, anti-immigrant bills. You’re welcome to read our full press release, including our coalition letter here [[link removed]] .
Our work is far from over, but we need your support to continue this fight. Please consider making a donation right now to help us protect the rights of Iranian Americans and other communities [[link removed]] from rising threats. Your contribution will enable us to escalate our grassroots organizing, coalition-building, and advocacy work. Support this work [[link removed]]
For more context - SB 147 [[link removed]] would prohibit individuals who are citizens of Iran, China, North Korea, or Russia from purchasing or acquiring title to property in the state. Copycat measures have been introduced in 10 additional states as well as in the U.S. Congress, and this threatens to become a rising phenomenon similar to the lead up to the Muslim Ban in 2015-17. These bills claim to target governments considered hostile to the U.S. by restricting the rights of ordinary people inside the U.S. to engage in basic parts of life, such as purchasing homes, owning a business, or going to college.
Thank you for your unwavering support in our mission to protect the rights of Iranian Americans and immigrant communities, and to promote a more inclusive and equitable society. Together, we will ensure that justice prevails.
Sincerely,
Etan Mabourakh Community & Advocacy Associate, NIAC
