DIGITAL PETITION TO CA LEGISLATURE:

Friend, my neighborhood in San Bernardino has the worst ozone quality in the entire country. And it’s all because of the warehouses.

As online shopping has boomed in the past decade, warehouses storing goods shipped from across the Pacific have rapidly flooded the Inland Empire, squeezing themselves next to neighborhoods, playgrounds, schools, and hospitals.

The trucks that carry goods to and from the warehouses produce a mind-boggling 50 million pounds of carbon dioxide EVERY DAY, clogging up the air and increasing the risk of heart and lung disease for the local residents, who are predominantly low-income Latine families.

Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes just introduced AB 1000 (the Good Neighbor Policy), which would finally address this environmental emergency. Friend, I urge you to show your support for this bill and help end the suffering of my community.

These warehouses now cover 1 billion square feet of space in the Inland Empire and are showing no signs of stopping. Another 170 million square feet are currently waiting for approval from the local government. 

Assemblymember Reyes’ AB 1000 would bar warehouses from being built within 1,000 feet of sensitive sites like schools, hospitals, and parks. Undoing the damage of the past will be difficult, but at the very least we should stop more warehouses from being built so close to places where kids go to school and play.
