New Executive Board

In our first meeting of the year, we elected a new executive board! We had far more contested races this year than in previous years, so a huge thank you to everyone who ran and voted. To see our new executive board, check out our website.

Letter from the Chair

Dear Young Democrats of King County,

It is with great honor that I step into the chairpersonship of the King County Young Democrats. This organization has meant a lot to me throughout the year and I am excited for this role not to be the voice of Young Democrats in this county but to pass the microphone. For starters I am honored by the hard work our previous chair Derek and the board did to launch us into a stellar year this year. Also large thank you to our newly elected board (and all candidates who ran). Nina, Cassandra, Yuan, Timea, Kari, Nicole, Rachel, Zach, Mike, Hugo, Keelcy, and Dan. I am excited to work with and get to know each and everyone of you.

Our goal has King County Young Democrats is to facilitate the passing of the microphone. That means electing the candidates who best represent us, especially if they are young democrats; empowering young people through learning; and especially providing opportunities to advance civically and professionally whether it's through jobs, appointments, or whatever it may be. We are here for you and we are ready to work.

Sincerely,
Matthew Barry Kanter

Conservation District Election

Did you know you vote online in this election? (It's apparently the nation's first online election!)

You will not be sent a paper ballot, so please mark your ballot online!

What the heck is a conservation district, and why should I care about this election?

Washington’s 45 conservation districts wield an underestimated power: the power of contagion.  As non-regulatory bodies, the districts can’t require landowners—including farmers, foresters, ranchers, and even urban gardeners—to do anything. But districts can grease the tracks.

Producers trust information from their peers. So when just one farmer in a community tries something new, it increases the likelihood that neighbors will follow suit. CDs aim to spark this domino effect.

Districts offer financial incentives and technical assistance to landowners who adopt or avoid practices according to board priorities. Each budget decision reflects a value: whether to put cutting chemical application above reducing soil erosion, bolstering local food production over fish habitat, urban canopy or a host of other concerns.
