Whether or not you attend an event, there are many more ways to participate this month, for adults, youth, and kids!

From 1978 to today, who we serve and how we help is always evolving to better serve our clients and our community. Every service and shelter night Doorways provides is a testament to our founders' legacy and this community's lasting commitment to safe harbor, healing, and hope.

April 2023 marks the 45th anniversary of Doorways' first response to homelessness and domestic violence in Arlington. When our founders realized there was nowhere in their community for their neighbors to go when they were in crisis, the created a safe place.

Then in 1979, our founders opened our first shelter, The Arlington Temporary Community Shelter, or TACTS, in a house donated by St. George's Church. In 1982, we opened our first permanent shelter, which was then and remains Arlington's only safehouse.
