It’s never acceptable to make it easier for dangerous people to get their hands on guns.

To do so just days after yet another school shooting, as our NC legislature did, is outrageous. They voted to roll back gun safety measures that allowed sheriffs to run background checks that would keep handguns OUT of the hands of violent people. It makes no sense at all.

Instead of doing what’s necessary to save lives, Republicans again chose allegiance to the gun lobby.

Team, even though the legislature is failing to do its job of protecting the people of North Carolina, I’ll keep doing mine. I will do everything in my power as your Attorney General and your next Governor to combat the gun violence epidemic — but I can’t do it alone.

Look, we all know that we have a gun violence problem — even the radical Republicans who refuse to admit it out loud.

Guns are the number one killer of kids in the US — even more than car crashes. We need to be taking more steps to reduce gun violence. More background checks. Red flag laws. These are the measures I’ll continue to advocate when I’m elected Governor.
