Dear MoveOn member,

This afternoon, Donald Trump was arrested and charged with an eye-popping 34 felonies, stemming from the fraudulent hush money payments he made to Stormy Daniels in the final days before the 2016 election.1

We have known that Trump was a criminal long before he ever stepped foot in the White House. He has used his power and privilege to avoid facing consequences for his actions for decades. He cannot be allowed to skirt accountability once again.

This is the first time in Trump’s decades of corruption and criminality that charges have been brought against him—but it is unlikely to be the last.

He remains under active investigation in Georgia for his role in attempting to overthrow the results of the 2020 election and by the federal government for his involvement in planning and leading the deadly white supremacist insurrection on January 6, 2021, and for stealing classified documents and refusing to return them.2

But Trump believes he is above the law, and we are already seeing him mobilize his followers to try to stop any prosecutions against him. Marjorie Taylor Greene led a protest today in Manhattan, and Trump’s other stooges in Congress—including Kevin McCarthy and Jim Jordan—are vowing to start sham investigations into Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan district attorney who charged Trump.3

John, no one is above the law.

No candidate. No politician. No elected official. And certainly not Trump.

He has admitted, on tape, to sexually assaulting women.4

He is at the center of a criminal conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election.5

He stole and destroyed federal documents and lied to obstruct the investigation into it.6

And he remains the subject of several criminal investigations and civil lawsuits for his crimes.7

As we continue to await the results of those investigations, today's arrest represents a turning point in finally starting to hold Trump accountable for flouting the law over and over again.

Thanks for all you do.
