John, Donald Trump is as dangerous as he is racist. But, you probably already knew that.
This news is disturbing on so many levels. Not only has the former president been a threat to our democracy since he was elected in 2016, but he has never been held accountable – up until this moment.
And as much as we want to take a sigh of relief, this is just the beginning. Trump is being arrested for breaking campaign finance laws, from SEVEN years ago. It's sickening that every second that Trump was in office, we lived in a country where we allowed the threat of white supremacy to lie, steal, and cheat without any consequences.
And today, we see the results…a former president under indictment and in handcuffs.
But this is not the end, John. Trump is not – and will not – be the last right-winged white supremacist to blatantly break laws. This entire debacle shows just how long crimes are overlooked by the government when it's for selfish gains – and when they can't hide in the dark anymore, they call their minions to pillage the streets.
But not this time. Let's remember that the Manhattan District Attorney's office is behind this – and the District Attorney position is an elected position. As a matter of fact, the current Manhattan District Attorney is Alvin Bragg – the first Black person to hold this position.
This is staunch proof that the people have the power. A prime reason why we fight to elect leaders that represent our values. Together, we need to pump all we can into mobilizing voters, recruiting candidates, and uprooting white supremacy once and for all.
Our organizing and activism have proved time and time again that we have the power as the people to make real change. If you believe in that work and are still committed to the work of taking our protest to the polls, will you chip in to Black Lives Matter PAC?
We'll be in touch soon to talk more about what this means for the future of Trump and his minions. In the meantime, if you're able, take it a step further and
become a recurring donor to Black Lives Matter PAC.
In love and solidarity,
Black Lives Matter PAC
