Good news for residents of Utah, which has joined 26 other states and D.C. in removing legal barriers that have kept nurse practitioners from providing all the care they’re educated and trained to provide. The number of nurses with a bachelor’s degree has increased in recent years, reflecting a workforce that can better handle an increasingly diverse population whose health problems grow more complex. Now the Campaign, while acknowledging the success, is shifting its focus to other ways to measure how the nursing profession can strengthen health equity for all.
This year’s County Health Rankings & Roadmaps focuses on civic health—the opportunities people have to participate in their communities. The University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute assessed cities’ infrastructure and civic participation. The map alone of social and economic health factors is an eye-opening view of the results of investment or disinvestment. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation funds the annual initiative.
In an hourlong Tele-Town Hall now available online, Evelyn Collier-Dixon, RN, MS, MDiv, of the National Black Nurses Association, and Rita Choula, MA, director of caregiving at AARP’s Public Policy Institute, review the increasingly sophisticated options available to family caregivers. The experts answer questions and offer guidance for how to navigate in-home services, including dialysis, bloodwork, X-rays and more.
Most hospitals and health organizations are 501(c)3s, meaning that many nurses are eligible for loan forgiveness – whether they know it or not. AARP and the Savi Student Loan Repayment Tool can help you take charge of student loan debt by providing a personalized assessment of repayment and forgiveness options
