Last week, Summer spoke on the House floor calling on Republicans to pass legislation banning assault style weapons.
John,
Last week, families from New York1 to Pennsylvania thought their worst fears had come true after receiving “swatting calls” about active shooters. The calls were false, but thousands of students, teachers, and parents were deeply traumatized by this nightmare scenario less than 72 hours after a mass shooting in Nashville stole three children and three adults’ lives.
There have already been 13 school shootings this year. There’s nothing about this that’s normal. Active shootings aren’t normal. Shooting hoaxes aren’t normal. The evacuations and drills are not normal.

Active shootings, hoaxes, evacuations, drills... this is no fucking way for our kids to live!
This is disgraceful. And no, Americans, this is not normal, and it definitely doesn't have to be this way!

Last week, Summer spoke on the House floor calling on Republicans to join with Democrats and pass legislation banning the assault style weapons that have been used in mass shootings throughout the country.
But Republicans care more about guns than our kids or worshipers in a church or synagogue or shoppers in a Walmart. Republicans want to control what books children read, what history students learn, how someone identifies, who we can love, and our bodies.
Republicans want to control everything except the proliferation of guns in this country.
We don't need any more leaders who refuse to take action to save lives — and the GOP has no solutions. We deserve leaders like Summer Lee, and like Jamaal Bowman, who last week spoke directly to the GOP House members who are resistant to solving the ever-growing epidemic of gun violence that is directly killing our children and weakening our country.
If you’re able, please split a donation between our campaign and Jamaal Bowman’s to help these two leaders stand up to the gun lobby and push for legislation that will protect our communities.

Our hearts are with the students, teachers, parents, and loved ones in Western PA and New York who are still reeling from what we thought was our worst fear come to life last week, and with the communities across the country who have dealt with this far too many times.
In solidarity,
Team Summer Lee
