Hi John,
Our country continues to experience the devastating epidemic of gun violence. Every day, we wake up to heartbreaking headlines of mass shootings, we lose thousands of beautiful lives to senseless violence — and yet there are no concrete solutions to meet the scope of the crisis we face.
My good friend and champion for progressive change Rep. Summer Lee said it best: Active shootings, hoaxes, evacuations, drills … this is no way for our kids to live. This is not normal and it doesn't have to be this way.
Summer and I are working day in and day out to hold gun manufacturers and lobbyists accountable for the constant destruction they cause every day in this country. But this work can't be done alone, and we need all the support we can get to ensure our efforts and plans come to fruition.
John, enough is enough. How many more children will have to die senseless deaths before we realize that this current system is not working for us? This was the question I asked to GOP representatives outside of the House floor last week. More people were concerned with my vocal inflection and passion than the lives lost at the hands of profit-over-people politics. In just 2023 alone, we have seen more mass shootings than days passed since the new year.1 There have been 131 instances of gun violence and yet the GOP believes that putting more guns in peoples hands will subdue this constant disaster.
Together, Summer and I are working to put the pressure on complacent conservatives and GOP members who would rather fill their pockets with blood money from the NRA and their lobbyists. We're ready to hold these bad actors accountable and continue boldly pushing real solutions — like banning assault rifles — to finally put an end to this era of violence.
This is a collective fight. Every single leader from every corner of this country has a moral obligation to speak out and challenge the status quo for the safety and stability of our country.
