John, we couldn't be prouder to endorse Elissa Slotkin in her race to be the next senator from Michigan.
Rep. Slotkin's commitment to abortion access and voting rights is unparalleled. And her experience working in national security and fighting for economic opportunity makes her both a strong candidate and a legislator we can count on.
Elissa is a third-generation Michigander, a national security leader, and a life-long public servant.
In the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, she was recruited to join the CIA as a Middle East analyst. Working alongside the U.S. military, she served a total of three tours in Iraq over a span of five years. She has held a variety of defense and intelligence roles -- under both President Bush and President Obama -- at the White House, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the State Department, and the Pentagon.
The reason Elissa first ran for office was personal: Her mother died of ovarian cancer in 2011, after struggling in her final years to afford health care because insurance companies had gouged her based on a pre-existing condition. A few years later, in 2017, Elissa watched the two-term incumbent from her district smile at a White House celebration after he and other House Republicans voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act, and her mind was made up: she decided to run against him that cycle -- and she won.
We were proud to support Elissa in that 2018 congressional campaign, and in her battles to hold the seat in 2020 and 2022. So of course, when she began weighing a Senate run in 2024, we were all in.
Elissa Slotkin is ready to fight for all of Michigan's rights in the U.S. Senate. Donate now to help elect candidates like Elissa across the country in 2023 and 2024:
