CCL's Danny Richter:
Your advocacy is crucial
in an election year

Dr. Danny Richter, CCL’s VP of Government Affairs, is here with his first legislative update of the year! Here’s his message:

  • Our respectful, nonpartisan climate advocacy is more important than ever in the context of an election year. He shares a story about how the atmosphere we set helps to foster good bipartisan conversations in the Senate Climate Solutions Caucus.

  • The Energy Innovation Act has welcomed its first cosponsors of the year: Rep. Annie Kuster (D-NH-02) and Rep. Grace Napolitano (D-CA-32). Share this news on Twitter!

  • You can take action right now by calling or writing to your member of Congress about climate solutions.

Other news this week:

Goodbye and thank you, Marshall: Over the weekend, CCL Executive Director Mark Reynolds paid a loving tribute to CCL Founder Marshall Saunders at a memorial service in Coronado, California (Mark starts speaking at 29 minutes in). Our younger volunteers, the future of CCL, also expressed their appreciation to Marshall on Kudoboard. We have a short compilation of highlights from Marshall’s speeches, guaranteed to make you misty-eyed, that you can watch on Facebook.

CCLers on the Hill: Next week, many of CCL’s conservative volunteers will be in Washington, D.C., for our first ever Conservative Climate Lobby Day. We are also thrilled to announce that a member of Congress has invited a CCL volunteer to attend the State of the Union. Follow CCL on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram to be first to see photos from these exciting events!

#SnowmanProtest contest open until Feb. 23

Want to win $500 doing something fun? CCL’s Snowman Protest contest is accepting entries until Feb. 23. Just build a snowman (or two or three!) that is protesting climate change, post it on your Instagram account with the hashtag #SnowmanProtest and tag CCL with @citizensclimate. More details available here. You can view entries on CCL’s Instagram page.

Grassroots: Reaching out on health and climate

If you want to convince people they should be concerned about climate change, talk about the impact it’s having on their health. That’s what Denver volunteer Kathleen Wells did by creating a presentation, "Health Threats of Climate Change Along Denver's Front Range," which she delivered to a group of 100 last November. The audience was very engaged, and the presentation offered the opportunity to talk about the Energy Innovation Act. More of her story can be found on CCL Community.

CCL volunteers are regularly activating the “five levers” of political will in their communities. To talk with other CCLers about their grassroots outreach work and get advice or ideas for your own, head to the “Engaging the Grassroots” forum on CCL Community.

Sen. Coons’ remarks at CCL regional: Climate champion Sen. Chris Coons recently addressed CCL volunteers at the Mid-Atlantic Regional conference, telling them, “We are living in a planet on fire… the impact for all of us and our children and our children’s children demands action.” Read more.
