John,

A recent report by international climate scientists has warned that we must phase out ALL fossil fuels by 2050 to avoid complete climate chaos.

But the oil and gas industry wants hundreds of billions of dollars from you to keep their fossil fuel plants open, and the plan is to try to sell us and Congress on their latest industry scam: carbon capture.

Send a message to your member of Congress demanding they stop funding fossil fuel projects and cut all funding for carbon capture programs from the federal budget.

Carbon capture is a mix of failed and sometimes made-up technologies fossil fuel executives claim will magically tackle climate change by sucking up carbon emissions. Yet, carbon capture burns 40% more fossil fuels and has never lived up to the hype despite the fact the federal government has already given these programs nearly $18 billion in taxpayer subsidies since 2010.

Demand that Congress reject any further handouts sought by the fossil fuel industry! We can’t keep these fossil fuel plants open another 30 years!

TAKE ACTION

Investigations by federal agencies have found that federally funded carbon capture projects have a track record of failure and are susceptible to fraud. Yet, last week, President Biden convened a task force meant to promote and deploy carbon capture. Now the oil and gas industry is salivating at the chance to get hundreds of billions of dollars in even more tax breaks from new federal programs. We must stop them.

Send a message to Congress: We demand investments in renewable energy to solve our climate problems, not fossil fuel scams like carbon capture.

Two large bills signed by President Biden in the past two years have opened the door to more federal investments in funding clean and renewable energy projects. But the fossil fuel industry used carbon capture as a means toward keeping their power plants open while guaranteeing large windfalls for shareholders and investors. Let’s invest in our planet by fighting for real solutions, not scams!

P.S. Food & Water Watch will be hosting a call-in week of action around tax filing day to convey to Congress that our taxpayer money should not be used to subsidize the oil and gas industry or carbon capture. Details coming soon!
